Some social media trends are fun, some are for a great cause, some last the test of time but others are just plain annoying and need to stop right now.
What is it with social media users obsession with sharing pictures of their breakfast. There are certain types of food that become so on-trend your feet get stuffed full of them. And we all get bored of them pretty quickly. The avocado toast trend dominated 2015 to the point of being seriously annoying. And it's still going to the point where the popularity of the avocado is damaging Mexican forest. Yes, farmers are clearing pine forest to illegally plant the trendy crop.
The Hashtag Panty Challenge
If you've spotted the panty challenge hashtag popping up on your timeline or feed, look away now otherwise you'll be faced with a load of pictures of panties. If you're not familiar with this challenge, women are sharing photos of the inside of their underwear to prove how clean they are. First of all nobody wants to see the inside of your underwear and second of all women shouldn't be ashamed for having a totally healthy system that means their panties don't stay totally dry all day.
Pictures on Instagram with the #fromwhereIstand hashtag can be beautiful. They might feature a fascinating piece of street art or creatively arrange objects. But when they're simply shoe selfies and not very attractive ones at that, they get pretty boring pretty quickly. No I don't want to see your feet and this surface you're standing on, not unless it's pretty awesome. And so many clearly aren’t.
The 100 Layers Challenge
When it first started out the hundred layers challenge was pretty fun to watch. Seeing what someone looks like with 100 layers of foundation or lipstick or false lashes is interesting the first time around. But when you see it for the hundredth time not so much. This trend gain such widespread popularity on youtube that you couldn't help but see it popping up all the time. And then it got taken out of the beauty world and got even grosser. No I don't want to see what your face looks like with a hundred layers of glue or candle wax or silly string on it.
Sweet Potato Toast
If you thought the avocado toast trend was the most annoying food trend on Instagram, get ready for a whole new version because sweet potato toast is training hard and could one day at clips avocado toast. Surely it's about to get as boring as its predecessor given its popularity, we don't need another toast trend. Even if it does you slices of vegetables in place of bread.
There's yet another breakfast related social media trend that's going to get really boring really soon. Pictures of smoothie bowls are everywhere. And they're just as annoying as avocado toast once you've seen the thousand one pop up on your feet. It's easy to see why it's become so popular. This trend allows foodies to artfully arranged their toppings of granola nuts seeds and fruits to show off their creative skills and their healthy lifestyle. But seriously enough now.
So you're in the middle of a downward dog are you? I really don't need to hear about that on social media or see the accompanying photo. How about you pay attention to your workout and let the rest of us have a break from your non-stop updates about your totally healthy lifestyle. We get it, you're super fang and super annoying.
Candy Crush Request
Seriously nobody wants to play candy crush with you so just stop inviting them. Facebook game requests have become so annoying. Mark Zuckerberg himself has had to step in. Facebook's head Honcho revealed that stopping game invitations with the top voted question on his thread before his Town Hall Q&A at the Indian Institute of Technology. So we made it a priority and got his team working on the problem. No more candy crush please.
The facebook check in is like a stalkers dream. Seriously why do you want everyone to know exactly where you are all the time? And it's only becoming more of a trend as more and more facebook users become addicted to telling all of their friends their whereabouts. Some of the most infuriating check-ins are the ones that are clearly a humble brag. “Oh look at me checking in at the gym for the fifth time this week.” Seriously nobody cares apart from your ex-girlfriend or maybe your mom.
The Hashtag Huhchallenge
The hashtag huhchallenge is taking over high schools and Twitter and it's getting pretty irritating. If you've ever witnessed it yourself it's basically kids roasting each other. you film yourself saying something insulting to your friend in a really annoying voice. You end it with a big “huh” and then upload to social media. It goes a little something like hi my name is Larry and my haircut makes me look like a hedgehog “huh”. Yep we want this to end now.
